Ex-Blue Peter presenter and host of Most Haunted, Yvette Fielding speaks to Whereandnow.com and swaps ghosts and ghouls for carrot and coriander soup.
My favourite place to eat is Greens in Didsbury, Manchester. It's just fab. My husband Karl is a veggie and we've always found it difficult to find decent veggie food. But the food here is amazing even if you are a carnivore; there really is something for everyone.
It’s recently undergone an expansion and although it’s definitely bigger, it’s still got a really intimate atmosphere. Owned by Simon Connolly and TV chef Simon Rimmer, Greens has been part of the Manchester dining scene for 18 years. Its reputation is based on producing quality vegetarian food with a seasonal menu using local produce where possible.
In 2008 it won Best provision for vegetarians at the Manchester Food and Drink awards. This is the third time they’ve won this award in addition to Restaurant of the Year in 2004.
Try some imaginative choices such as veggie black pudding and sweet potato gumbo.
Top Tip: Try its winter menu, which has just launched with traditional fare including carrot and coriander soup. But it also features some brave choices such as Thai spiced potato cake with Asian coleslaw and Cheshire cheese sausages with mustard mash. With lunch prices coming in at around £17 per person and dinner at a mere £21 per person, this is a great local restaurant that won’t break the bank.
Simon Rimmer has also opened another restaurant. Check out Earle in Cheshire.
