Lorna Strickland-Cook heads back to Theatre Land to find somewhere to quench her thirst over a long day out in London.
We dived into The Angel and Crown on St Martins late for a couple of quick drinks after work and were immensely pleased to find such a wonderful watering hole clearly devoid of tourists in such an overtly tourist hotspot.
It’s theatreland and amidst all the chain restaurants sits The Angel and Crown; a very small little pub with wood panelling and a team of busy, excellent bar staff. The manager Matt served us and recommended a great Sipsmith gin to go with my tonic. We sat and took in the atmosphere, which is full of a mix of suits and soho types enjoying a very relaxing atmosphere.
If you are in the area, fancy a pint in a pub with a very modern feel with olde-worlde charm, then The Angel and Crown is the place to go. Prepared to fight your way to the bar though and wait a while to get served. It’s already a popular place.
Top Tip: There’s a dining room upstairs which we didn’t even know about on our visit so you’ll most certainly dodge the tourists up there. The pub is from the team behind Chiswell Street Dining Rooms and The Jugged Hare so expect full-on portion sizes and magnificent grub.
