The Banana Tree, Soho

Posted in Where to Eat & Drink Now

What sort of restaurant doesn't do desserts? Well, The Banana Tree, Soho, doesn't. However, the restaurant's range of titbits, sides and mains more than makes up for the absence of the sweet ending to a meal.

After leaving the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street to arrive here, we were shown to a table quickly and offered a list of cocktails to choose from. I had a Mojito, which was delicious and went down far too easily! Whilst waiting for our food to arrive, I noticed the décor was modern, as this particular branch of The BananaTree has just opened everything is fresh and new. It reminded me slightly of eating in a warehouse with the metal fixtures hanging from the ceiling.

Trying to choose something from the menu was hard as they offer a good mix of both vegetarian and meat dishes. As the titbits and mains come out together we had the whole meal at once. The titbit I ordered wasthe Crispy Soya Filo Roll, which was a mixture of Yam, Prawn and Meat stuffing. When it arrived it was presented well and tasted luscious, even my dining companion (who is quite fussy) kept stealing it off my plate! He had the Crispy Pork Mix and I returned the favour by eating quite a few of his tender pork morsels.

For the main I had Crispy Chicken with Mango and Sweet lime Sauce and a side of Egg Fried Rice. Now Crispy Chicken is a pretty standard dish which can be served anywhere, but the sauce gave it a completely different taste and pushed it up a notch into a different kind of dining experience. It was lovely and unfortunately now means I am never going to want to eat plain Crispy chicken again. My companion ordered the Roasted Duck Breast with Pei Pa Hoisin Sauce and as the menu states is “simply divine!”

This reasonably priced restaurant is perfect for shoppers, during or after a shopping spree and groups of friends who are after a catch up session. The atmosphere is electric and has a real buzz to it, but be warned they offer a table sharing policy.

Would I go back to the Banana Tree, definitely....the food was delicious and with an interesting variety to choose from it would definitely be worth exploring more.
